When it comes to traveling this time of year the last thing you have time for is worrying about the effects stress has on your body. Understandably, we as humans have been battling this persistent annoyance for hundreds of years. Some folks have been able to manage it with just a few modifications, while others have had to turn to professional counseling or even medications. According to the National Institute of Mental Health’s “Fact Sheet on Stress“, the American Heart Association’s “How Does Stress Affect You” and the Mayo Clinic’s “Stress: Constant stress puts your health at risk,” stress that continues without relief can lead to a condition called distress — a negative stress reaction. Distress can lead to physical symptoms including headaches, upset stomach, elevated blood pressure, chest pain, and problems sleeping.” Therefore, what are some simple things we can do to lessen the effects of stress and truly enjoy healthy travels to your destination? Let’s find out.
1. Travel with a friend:
There is a reason why we say “two is better than one.” When we plan a trip with someone (triptogether.com) there is a mutual agreement or understanding that no matter how bad things get you can count on that person to help you through it. Sometimes we get so frustrated and overwhelmed we simply overanalyze and complicate matters further. It’s like the old saying; “can’t see the forest for the trees” which definitely applies here. Moreover, and the most important part, let’s not forget about your blood pressure; we definitely need to keep that in check.
2. Specialty items: One of the many reasons why America is so great is because we have so many individuals who are truly gifted entrepreneurs. For every ailment, discomfort or basic human necessity we feel or need, there is a product or a gadget ready to resolve our issues. For example, one such item I recommend you bring with you is called a “ZNZI” (Znzitravelstuff.com). This is a special pillow with suction cups that can be placed almost anywhere for comfort. Another great item to have with you is any type of small electronics like an iPad, iPhone or a small laptop. These practical items can be used to enjoy a movie or listen to your favorite music while in transit. The idea here is to place your body and mind in a state of relaxation.
3. Healthy Snack Foods: Preparing an assortment of healthy snacks before you depart for your destination is not only smart and good for you, but cost effective. Such items like carrots, celery, nuts, fruits and pre-packaged yogurts and hummus are excellent food companions to have with you. They provide many of the nutrients and vitamins we need to satisfy our hunger without adding too many unwanted calories. Moreover, when purchased in bulk, they can end up saving you a few dollars which is always a great feeling to experience.
4. Portable Workout Equipment: By now, we should all know how important exercise is to all of us. However, what some of us tend to forget is that exercise is also a tremendous stress reliever. According to the ADAA (Anxiety and Depression Association of America) “exercise is considered vital for maintaining mental fitness, and it can reduce stress. Studies show that it is very effective at reducing fatigue, improving alertness and concentration, and at enhancing overall cognitive function.” Therefore, what do I recommend you bring with you on your next journey? The “TRX Suspension System” – this portable system will provide everything you need to work your entire body whereever and whenever you go. Bottom line….no more excuses.
